United South East DSD (formerly Dixie Belle Ice Cream) was founded in 1990 by Perry and Kathy Ashrafi, former Circle K store managers. We are a Good Humor company specializing in the sale of super-premium ice cream brands such as Ben & Jerry’s, Good Humor, Klondike, Breyer’s, Popsicle and Magnum.
The Ashrafis’ took an initial investment of six hundred dollars and turned it into a multimillion dollar business. “We began with three old postal trucks that we acquired from an auction and we turned them into ice cream trucks,” recalls Kathy Ashrafi. “From there we just grew.”
In just three years the Ashrafis’ expanded their wholesale vending ice cream business into a twenty-six truck fleet and began servicing and supporting smaller neighborhood vendors with ice cream distribution, maintenance and more. “We provided whatever they needed to get started,” says Ashrafi. From 1994-2000 United South East DSD began servicing convenient stores through direct service delivery (DSD) and took a “presale” approach to business.
“This was a way for us to distinguish ourselves from competitors. We were now filling orders based on the needs of the client and not based on whatever we had on the truck to sell,” says Bob Parry, General Sales Manager.
United South East DSD became the first company to introduce Good Humor products to Carolina convenient stores. Since incorporating DSD and Good Humor products in to the business plan, United South East DSD has acquired national chain convenient store accounts Circle K, Kangaroo, Pilot, Flying J and Petro TA.
In 2013 United South East DSD entered into an exclusive concessionaire agreement with Good Humor Ice Cream to become the ONLY authorized distributer of Unilever Ice Cream within the Carolinas and parts of Georgia.
Today United South East DSD is the largest ice cream wholesaler in the Carolinas and is continuing to expand.
